My Ride: 06 polaris sportsman
I have a 2006 Sportsman 500 HO. and over the last few months when i go to start it, it would barely crank over so i used the pull start. I was preparing for a two day run so i thought i should charge the battery, after leaving the charger on it for a day, it showed that it was fully charged but it would still not crank the engine over. We road for two days and everytime we stopped, i would have to pull start it; although one time i kept trying to pull start it and it wouldnt start, i turned the key off and when i turned the key back on...it started right up!! this happened one other time too.
at the end of the last day i parked it and when i went to put it on the trailer, i turned the key and nothing happened, no lights on the "dash pod" and i cant seem to pull start it either.
i took it home and put in a new battery but that didnt do anything.
Any thoughts gentlemen?

Just kidding; I would check the ground wires before going crazy. I recall someone else posting a similar problem and it was a frayed or exposed ground wire in the pod.

definitely check your grounds make sure they are good and clean where they make contact to the frame or where ever they maybe grounded to , also if you can check the battery voltage while the bike is sitting with the key off and then try to start it with the key watching the battery voltage , if it drops allot .... below 10 vdc , then the battery is toast.

Friend of mines Arctic Cat does the exact thing, its currently getting fixed at the dealership, stator wire was broken, estimated cost $1600 including clutch adjustment and fluid changes (stator estimated price was between 600-700) been at the dealers since 30 Sept. and still havent got the oem part.

Turns out it was a corroded cable, cleaned it and it starts fine now. Thanks for all of the replies.
