hello all, this past weekend I was at the snowmobile/atv show and looked at a few atv's.
I am thinking of going with the 2014 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS.
The reason why I'm purchasing an ATV is because my family has a piece of property in the Minden Hills area and there are some pretty neat spots around that I'd like to explore.
As a first time ATV buyer, there are some questions I have that maybe you veterans can help me out with?

When is the best time of year to buy a new ATV? (looking for a time frame when prices are down and the goodies are added in like a winch, plow maybe even upgraded tires?)

Does anyone recommend a reputable dealership near the Toronto area?(don't mind travelling a bit out of the way either)

Lastly, what do people think about the Yamaha Grizzly?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. Every bit of information helps me as a first time buyer.

Cheers!

Welcome to the Mudhole.ca, jrsa00...

I would think now is as good a time as any. Dealers will be putting the push on sleds now.

Can't help you with a dealer recco in the the GTA...

Yami's are great machines...don't think you can go wrong with a Grizz.
The other name brands also have good machines...

Good luck with your search and post up pics when you take the plunge!!! :ride:

I had a 2008 Grizz 700 and it was a fantastic machine. Very reliable and comfortable. You won't win any drag races against other big bore machines of the similiar size. But having said that, in the bush and on tight trails, the Grizz is very nimble and who cares about top speed.
I know a couple of guys that have 2014 Yamaha Grizz 700s and love em.
If you look up 17a here (his handle) he wrote a nice write up on his after 1600 km

If you are riding up in Haliburton, I would recommend a tire upgrade and some aftermarket skid plates.

There are a few places in the GTA and the only place I liked consistently in the GTA is Asselstines near Blackstock. Not once in the several times I dropped the bike off did I get a surprise higher than quoted bill. As for the Uxbridge dealer and the Whitby dealer, maybe other people had better experiences than I did.

with the 2015's hitting showroom floors some dealers like to put good deals on the leftover 2014's and sometimes u can even find a 2013. But at the same time they dont like to have too good of a deal on the leftovers because then nobody buys the new models. Shopping around is your best bet. Sometimes a couple hours drive out of town can save you a good chunk of change, which then allows you to get more/better add-ons. Usually spring time is when all the companies have their incentive programs because that's when the atv season starts.
If you're handy with adding the accessories yourself you'll be able to find products much cheaper than from the dealer. Check out ATV Tire Rack on Facebook. Michael can get anything for atv's and for cheaper than anyone.
As for the Grizzly, they are a tried, tested, and true machine. Mudhole member 17A loves his 2014 700 Grizzly. He has a review that he posted on the forum recently.
Cant help with a dealer recommendation, but like I said, shop around.
Also, check out the Grizzly forum.

I noticed Woodstock had a 2014 at over 2g discount, I don't think it was EPS though

Some people I know said Snow City is ok to deal with. I did get deals on parts there in past. Now that they have expanded their parking lot a bit, you can get in there to pick up and drop off machine.
Focus on out the door price with the extras you want and not price of unit. Fright pdi and various other bs charges they like to tack on can exceed what you think you are saving. When shopping I always ask what the freight and pdi and liscencing charge is.
10 min after being told it was a $100 to liscence, they said they wait til afternoon to send their clerk so she could have at least 2 or it's not worth their time. The office is freaking 2 min walking distance and it is rare for it to take more than 10 min to be in and out. Wtf!!
As much as it is nice to have new. I hate the lying BS by dealerships.

Check Kijiji & Auto Trader
Good place to get idea on new Grizz's.
I see a new 2014 700 Grizz (non P/S) for $8,999.

Don't be afraid of the 550 Grizz either, lots of power & it wasn't that many yrs ago 500s were top of the atv world!

Overall the Grizzly's steering is light. I had a non eps unit with 27 inch tires. It felt fine until it was down under 3 mph in the ruts roots and rocks. As I aged I wanted EPS more and more. That and not having a 2 up seat was the reason I bought a new bike. The 700 or the 550 can keep up and do better than most other big bore machines on nice twisty trails.

Hope you checked out the Haliburton ATV booth at the show. Minden Hills is a great place to start riding what with the open roads and abundance of trails, check the HATVA website and order a map to get an idea of possible rides in the area. Join some of the organized club rides. haliburtonatv.com

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice. I really appreciate it.
And yes, I did check out the Haliburton ATV booth at the ATV show. The gentleman running the booth was kind enough to give me a map of the area where my property is located and he also gave me a Haliburton ATV Association t-shirt. (I know, i'm a huge poser. but hopefully not for long ahaha)
A few weeks ago I was doing some offshore fishing over at my property and a few guys stopped to ask how the fishing was so we started talking and they kept on bringing up "The Five Points". To be honest, I had no idea what they were talking about but it sounded quite cool ahahah. Does anyone here know what "The Five Points" is?

It's easy to get lost in there and I would not recommend going alone or without a winch and gps. A few trails are incredibly rugged and others have near bottomless quagmire mud.

You can park on Bass Lake road accross from bridge. First trailhead is approx 1.5 km up on rt. there are several others off Bass Lake rd as well
