Thanks for the link. Now I have a stupid question. Where is the contactor usually mounted? I have to check to see if mine is recalled or not.

prozac it is usually tucked into a compartment or something, follow the wires from your winch back to it, they hook directly to it. Its black and has 4 terminals on the top, its about 4" long and 1.5" wide and about 1.5" tall.

Well that's what I thought. But mine doesn't look like any of those on the warn site. Here are a few photos. Is this what I'm looking for and can anyone tell by looking at it if it's the recall one or not? Nothing under my seat and this is mounted up above the rear left tire and has some heavy guage wire going to it from the battery.

that in the picture is the STARTING CURCUIT solenoid, not the winch contactor. your winch contactor as far as i know will look like the ones in the picutre.

Kodiak i wont have any meltdowns, i already replaced a burnt out (not functioning) one so now the new one will be a spare. smart aZZ

Hey thanks for the quick reply. I traced my cables and found it mounted up above the right front tire. Just pulling the cover over the fuses you could see where it was at but I still couldn't tell which one it was. But I'm half blind and the lighting isn't that good (yet) in my garage. Had to unbolt two bolts on a tray that it was mounted to. Looks like I have the 4 post one. Here are a few pics just to help anyone else.

as far as i can tell from the pics it is the newer style that arent part of the recall, HOWEVER, for safety i would remove it and read the numbers on the bottom OR if its on top like the pic on the warn site shows then its also the new good ones.

Yeh it's on top like the one on the site. If you look close next to that yellow wire the warn logo is there and the number.

I've got one of those, and a winch that's not working, wonder if that's a coincidence or not.

You may wish to disconnect it and verify, the potential for fire is stated in their warning, better safe then sorry :)

Hats off to WARN. I emailed them on the 3rd asking how to determine if I've got the bad one or not. They emailed back and told me they'd just send one out anway and to take it to a dealer to have it changed if needed. Then with some help I was able to determine which one I have, emailed them back and said it's not recalled, they said they were sending me one anyway. Good stuff. UPS guy just dropped off a brand new one for me so I guess I'll keep it as a spare. It's got better covers for the cables too. Each cable has it's own cover which the wire feeds through, the one on the bike now just has one cover that goes over all the wires and as you can see in the pics it doesn't keep the mud off very well lol.

Wow! That is great. Looks like they are very responsible people, and at the same time, know how to keep a good name.

I'm happy for you 8)

I'm not sure it will be in a "set" spot? Check under the seat, in the wheel wells and any other place there may be room. You could always follow the wires from the winch if all else fails.

Hope that helped,
Sting
